The Broad Street Market Alliance is seeking candidates for its board of directors with experience in agriculture, marketing, non-profit management, maintenance, historic preservation, and anyone with a strong passion for farmers’ markets and the City of Harrisburg.
The board promotes our mission to preserve the historic character and function of the Broad Street Market. As an urban, public market we strive to make a wide variety of fresh, raw and prepared foods accessible in the center of the City of Harrisburg, a food desert as defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We aim to maintain an environment that recognizes and celebrates the City’s diversity; to educate about the global need to re-connect people to the land and the production of their food; to provide a venue for entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for residents of the City of Harrisburg and the region, while maintaining the economic viability of the Market.
Like most nonprofit boards, our members will take an active role in things like public relations, governance, and strategic planning. They will also serve as ambassadors in the community to promote and educate people about the Market and its role as an oasis in a food desert. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
If this kind of volunteer opportunity stirs you, please submit your resume and letter of interest to BSMABoard@gmail.com before October 30, 2020.
