Thanksgiving Appetizers

Lots of noshing will be happening during Thanksgiving well before the turkey hits the table. Whether you will be preparing appetizers from scratch or looking for quick items to make your life easier and guests happy, there are plenty of options at the Broad Street Market. In the “easier” category, we’ll be grabbing a few delicious spreads and raw vegetables and crackers for scooping—no cooking required!
• Smoked salmon spread from J.B. Kelly Seafood Connection is made with house brined and hot smoked sockeye salmon, cream cheese and J.B. Kelly’s signature spice blend locally made by Calicutts Spice Co.
• Spinach artichoke dip is housemade by Fisher’s Deli along with their Cajun crab, buffalo chicken, vidalia onion and sour cream and cheddar varieties.
• Fire roasted red pepper dip is made locally in Lancaster for R.G. Hummer Meat and Cheese. Other spreads available at Hummer’s include pimento cheese, jalapeno, bacon/scallions, Cajun crab, chive, garlic/herb and port wine.
• For dipping, we grabbed crackers from Green Ridge Acres and locally grown carrots from Peach Ridge. Melissa at Veg Out recommended local daikon and Bacchus radishes and turnips—all we had to do was slice and eat.

Green Ridge Acres – Lots of pantry items, cheeses, local fruits and vegetables, dried fruits and nuts, salad dressings, local honey and jams are available at Green Ridge. Green Ridge is open in the Brick Building from 7am-5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 7am-4pm on Saturdays.
J.B. Kelly Seafood Connection – Kelly’s housemade salmon spread is always a winner, as is their steamed Texas Brown Jumbo shrimp with their housemade cocktail sauce. R.G. Hummer Meats and Cheese – In addition to their locally made range of spreads and dips, Hummer’s carries domestic and imported cheeses, cured meats, snack sticks and Lebanon bologna. Peach Ridge Produce – Peach Ridge carries a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, many grown locally. Peach Ridge Produce is open in the Brick Building from 7am-5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 7am-4pm on Saturdays.
Revittle – Revittle is a specialty cured meats and cheese shop. Revittle is open in the Brick Building until 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 4pm on Saturdays.
Sweet 717 – Jess candies by hand vanilla cardamom almonds, maple cinnamon pecans and chocolate covered peanuts. All of these nuts are great for straight snacking, but the maple cinnamon pecans are great on salads. Sweet 717 is open in the Brick Building until 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 4pm on Saturdays.

Veg Out – Veg Out carries a variety of fresh vegetables either grown on owner Melissa’s farm in Halifax or from other northern Dauphin County farms.
